Man United open talks to sign Adrien Rabiot on free transfer
According to reports in Italy, Man United have made the first move to sign Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot on a free transfer. The Red Devils are keen to recruit a new midfielder during the next transfer window and the Frenchman has been identified as a potential target.
Adrien Rabiot began his senior football career at Paris Saint-Germain after graduating from the youth academy in 2012. The midfielder played for the Ligue 1 club until 2019, making 227 appearances and scoring 24 goals (stats via Transfermarkt). He also spent a six-month loan spell at Toulouse in 2013 during his time at PSG.
In July 2019, the 29-year-old joined Serie A giants Juventus on a free transfer. He signed a four-year contract with the Italian club, which ended last summer, but he signed a one-year contract extension with the club until 2024. He becomes a free agent this summer, this which allows him to negotiate with the club of his choice.

Meanwhile, according to Caught Offside (via GMS), the Red Devils have made contact with the French midfielder to discuss a possible deal this summer. The club have been holding negotiations to secure a possible deal, with the player’s current contract with the Old Lady set to expire at the end of this month.
United have been tracking the Frenchman for a while now and attempted to bring the midfielder to Old Trafford a few years ago. However, an agreement could not be reached between the two parties due to the player’s exorbitant salary demands and this decision did not materialize.

The Red Devils ended this season on a high note by lifting the FA Cup trophy. However, their constant struggles and poor player performances were visible throughout the season, especially in midfield. Even the presence of experienced players like Christian Eriksen and Casemiro could not stop the fall.
Casemiro and Eriksen performed well in their first 2022-23 season with the club, but they failed to replicate their performance this season. It now appears that both players could be sold this summer, with the club planning a major squad overhaul.
Adrien Rabiot could prove to be a shrewd signing for Man United. The 29-year-old is strong, experienced, skillful and possesses excellent physique, attributes needed to thrive in the Premier League. He is a talented player and has already demonstrated his abilities at the highest level.

However, signing the France international would be a difficult task. With the midfielder available on a free transfer this summer, the Red Devils will face competition from other top European clubs. The report claims that PL rivals Newcastle United are very keen to sign him.
Nonetheless, Man United are said to be worried that another midfield signing might not work out for them. The club failed to replace Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick. They spent a lot of money on players like Paul Pogba, Fred and others to make the midfield work, but to no avail. The Red Devils will not want another midfielder, recruited with high salaries, to fail.
